Black-necked Stilt

I must say that this was a bird that I was looking forward to meet. As a new birder I had heard of this bubble gum colored legs and body with black and white patterns.
I was not disappointed. I also enjoy the sound that they make as they flew over me.
Soon came mating time and nest making. Very interesting to watch and fascinating how they laid their mossy twig materials right on the edge of the water....sad too....because every time we had a considerable amount of rain water - the nest would also become useless.
This is nature and they figure things out....without me telling them. Soon the babies came, look to the right side of mom and see the two chicks.
The chicks started to move around within the wildlife preserve and growing quickly. I haven't seen them for 3 weeks now and it coincides with their departure for migration...till next year.
Sweet little ones.
