CWA Lagoon at Ft.Myers Beach

The American Oystercatchers were there bright and early today - all 7 of them being busy cleaning up.

And a couple yoga poses to limber up :)

HaHa! Check the Willet out - might he be a wannabe Oystercatcher? He can almost pull it off.
But then the other Willets came and he lost his cover.
These, I'm guessing them to be ?? totally confused ?? those LBG always get me to scratch my head.
The ever beautiful Roseate Spoonbill - a full grown one too - look at those orange feathers, a sure sign of
being 2-1/2 or 3 years old.
      Little Wilson Plovers
     Baby Least Tern
     Adult Least Tern
There goes the gang. The Least Terns were busy this morning, flying and chatting away - people
     walking contributed to it too.
And the infamous - Black Tern - I've asked around for the proper I.D. on this one - so far it seems to be
a Black Tern. I'm sure more will be revealed in time.

  1. Hi, France! Just "migrated" to your blog from the Brdbrains listserve site.
I agree with others this is a Black Tern. They will show varying degrees of white on their face and head as they molt into fall plumage.
Crossley's ID Guide to Eastern Birds says some 2nd summer birds are white-faced.
    Hope this helps!

I look forward to reviewing your older posts and keeping up with newer ones!

    Nice site you have!

  2. Great job finding the Black Tern at the Lagoon! The American Oystercatchers are hopefully nesting at the Lagoon again this year. Please take a few minutes to read the article linked here that explains why you should not use "X" for your species counts . . . http://help.ebird.org/customer/portal/articles/1006732-the-trouble-with-x---why-you-should-always-estimate-numbers-
