Pond Apple Trail

The Pond Apple Trail has been calling my name and this morning I decided to heed the call. As soon as I set foot on the trail - I caught sight of the Bald Eagle carrying some material for the nest.

Then, leading into the small wooded trail, the Red-shouldered Hawk was keeping a sharp eye.

A Pileated Woodpecker could be heard pounding away.

Aww....I feel like Dorothy....."There's no place like home".

With the large amount of rain fall that we've had this past summer, I hadn't been able to venture through since the entire walk was under water and slippery muck - now, the walk was dry and the soil has hardened.

It wasn't long before I was able to spot the Eagle's nest and oh, what a beauty!

The Marsh rabbit seemed comfortable until I moved - off he went, like the wind.

The Eagle could be heard - talking to its mate.....love that sound.

After a while I returned to the water retention ponds and saw a few gators leisurely swimming.

The Green Heron seemed to be on alert.....no wonder.....I would be too if this guy was coming my way.

The singing started - the birds were tweeting everywhere.

There were so many Blue-Grey Gnatcatchers that it was hard to just follow one.

The Little Blue Heron.

Palm Warblers - bountiful they are, so much so that they are often referred to as being a "trash" bird.....I beg to differ.

Soon it was time to go - but not before getting an aerial show from the Belted Kingfisher.

Very nice morning at the Pond Apple Trail today, check my E-bird list with 27 species.
