Red-bellied Woodpecker

The Red-bellied Woodpecker happens to be a year-round specie for my neck of the woods and this time of the year it is really a special treat to watch them as their colors really starts to shine. This particular little guy has been busy excavating in one of my dead palm tree - which I keep just for that purpose - rent free for them.
He poked several holes on March 22 and finally settled in one - bits and pieces of woods were all over the deck below the tree. This morning I noticed that he is remodeling his living quarters.

Check out his breeding plumage - quite handsome, don't you think?

More excavation.

And some more.

This is obviously a work in progress and more will be revealed in time.....stay tuned.
