A swing through Ding Darling

Happy New Year!
It's been chilly by Florida's standards however the sunshine provides for a positive outlook on things and what better way to take advantage of it than to head to Ding Darling and visit with the wildlife, so come along and see....

First, a walk along the Indigo Trail - we spent quite a bit of time there and enjoyed watching the Herons - The Green were busy with their tactics of 'fishing' for fish....

while some of the Black-crowned Night Heron were hunkered down while trying to snooze....

Others were getting ready to feed

The young ones were not too far away but already in the know on 'how to' fish....

beak licking good.

Then a feather....

with a reflection of.....

a White Ibis who played and swished the feather around....

until it wasn't fun anymore.

Along the drive we watched this Cormorant trying to eat its catch....

though it was a lot more than it could chew.

Behind us, a Great Blue Heron landed - ready for some fishing of its own.

More sweet feathers for reflection.

A nice bunch of Teals were gathered...

we were happy to watch them....the Green-winged and the Blue-winged together.

Wrapping it up for the day with a Little Blue Heron and

an Osprey. It might have been cold and windy but the birds have to eat in order to survive and stay warm - everyone benefits - and on that note I think I'll serve myself some of that Lentil Soup that's been in my crockpot all day....yum!
